Phew...I'm not sure where to even start about spring break this year. Michael and I searched and searched for places to go on Spring Break that would be affordable, warm, and exciting for our family. It's always difficult to find a family vacation that will suit our wide range of children at an affordable cost! Every single place we looked was crazy expensive. We came down to a few options...driving to Miami and going on a Disney Cruise, flying to San Diego and staying a few days there and then using Michael's cousin's house (that they generously offered us) just over the border in Mexico, or going to Universal Studios in Orlando.
We decided on Universal Studios and booked with another family. We booked only about 2 and a half weeks before spring break. We thought we were all set to go, but then all of a sudden the Coronavirus pandemic hit. It was just starting to spread fast in Washington and New York City and was quickly spreading to other states. Universal announced that they were closing the week we were supposed to go. We canceled the Universal vacation. The children were devastated (as were the adults). We all desperately wanted to go on vacation after the tough winter of being cooped up inside so much. So we called on Friday, the day before we were originally scheduled to leave for Universal, and decided to go out on a limb and book a house on VRBO in Orlando.
We started packing at 5pm the night before we planned to leave. Here is my cute little helper! She's currently in a no shirt phase, but insists upon wearing her pearls.
The house was about 5 miles from Disney and was brand new with 9 bedrooms, a game room and a private heated pool and hot tub. Every single house looked the same in this massive complex.
Conor and Ryan picked the Star Wars room. Peyton started out in this room too, but after a night he decided that it was pretty creepy having Darth Vader staring at you while you sleep!
Peyton moved to the Toy Story Room. He was a little nervous to sleep in a room by himself, since he hasn't slept by himself sine he was an infant. These rooms are actually a lot cooler in person. They did a really great job with all the theming.
Patrick and Carson picked last so they were in the Mickey Mouse room.
And here is the pool! We spent almost the whole vacation in the pool. The weather was perfect and the kids had the greatest time swimming.
The kids were really great on the 10 hour drive to Orlando. We left around 6:30am and got in around 6pm. We stopped once for lunch and only one other time to stretch our legs. We ordered pizza and swam and called it a night!
