Cincinatti Summer Vacation (Part 2)

After a fun first day in Cincinatti, we went back to the hotel to crash! We had to get two rooms at the Marriott for our family. The big boys asked if they could sleep in the room next door.  We got a knock at the door really early on Monday morning. Patrick came in and said he wasn't feeling well. He has been sleeping in pretty late, so I knew that something definitely wasn't right. A wave flashed over him and he immediately threw up everywhere. It looked completely unexpected.  A few minutes later he threw up again. His side was really really hurting him. We didn't think it was the stomach bug and decided he needed to go to the emergency room.  Luckily, Cincinatti Children's was about 15 minutes away. The sweet little guy felt so bad he was just miserable going over each bump in the car.

It was the 4th of July, so I knew that the hospital might be a little slow based on staff on a holiday. Luckily they worked us in pretty fast. The doctor that evaluated us thought it was appendicitis. They didn't have the equipment/staff to do an ultrasound in the children's wing, so we were sent over to the adult wing. They called us back pretty fast and we were evaluated again. The second doctor also thought it could be appendicitis and ordered an ultrasound.

We watched a movie while we waited on the ultrasound. The ultrasound came pretty quickly, so they didn't have time to get an IV in with some medicine before they did the ultrasound. It looked like it was a little bit painful for him. The doctor had told me they might have trouble finding his appendix and so she might have to press a little hard.

While we were waiting on our results, the other three headed to the aquarium. I didn't want them sitting around all day. Michael said the little two had such a blast and ran around looking at all the fish.

We finally got the results of the ultrasound and it turned out to be kidney stones. They put in an IV and tried to flush his system so he could pass them. It was a really long IV, so we weren't discharged until really late afternoon.  Sweet little guy! I know that was so painful for him. We were glad it wasn't appendicitis though so we could go home and not have to stay in the hospital a couple of nights.

Patrick was dying to go to the Reds game that night so we asked the doctor if we could go. His main concern was that Patrick could not get dehydrated and that he couldn't exert himself.  I was so thankful Michael had gotten club level seats so that we could get air condition and drinks whenever he needed to. We also found a ride to the game with a Father Ryan Alum! It all worked out really well. I was so glad Patrick could go to the game and get his mind off the kidney stones.

She just has a way with these boys! They all adore her!

After the game the Reds were doing a 4th of July Fireworks show. We moved down to the bottom rows so we could see the fireworks.

It was a really amazing fireworks show! It was also fun seeing all the players and their families from both teams on the field watching with us.

Even though the Cincinatti trip didn't go exactly as planned, we were thankful for this time away with the kids. June was such a hectic month with constant meetings at the house and lots of moving. I felt like the kids missed out on some of their summer due to the house situation.
