11th Anniversary Trip - Omni Grove Park Inn (Part 1)

When Sharon offered to watch the kids for a few days, we immediately booked a getaway. Omni Grove Park Inn has been on my bucket list for a while. We love to go to places with lots of activities, but also love to have a day of relaxation. Asheville has so many activities, it was the perfect spot for a fun, but also relaxing vacation.

We booked the vacation on Monday night and left really late Wednesday night. We drove Wednesday night to Knoxville and arrived around 1am and crashed as soon as we arrived. The next morning we woke up early and drove the couple hours to Asheville. We booked the only spa appointment that was available for the entire time we were there. It was so beautiful driving up to the Grove Park Inn.

We rushed to the spa as soon as we checked in. I had booked a "Head in the Clouds" massage and Michael had a day pass to the spa. I headed straight to the massage while Michael went to the Sauna, mineral pools and then the outdoor sauna area.

The spa is absolutely gorgeous!

We ate lunch at the outdoor portion of the spa and spent the rest of the day outside soaking in the sun in the hot tub with some delicious drinks. It was the most gorgeous November day. We were so surprised we were able to be outside in swim suits in the mountains in November.  We spent the entire day there and enjoyed a gorgeous sunset.  The pictures do not do it justice.

After the sun went down we headed indoors to the indoor portion of the spa. It is so gorgeous all lit up! We were the only ones inside and it was so relaxing.

After our spa day we headed to the room and got ready for our dinner reservations at Vue 1913.  We had reservations for later that night, but we were so hungry we asked if they had earlier reservations. We started with the artisanal cheese plate, thirty six hour pork belly, and the vanilla poached pear salad.  Michael had the Lobster and Grits and I had the Filet Mignon. We finished with a delicious dessert. They also asked if we were celebrating anything when I had called to book the spa appointments. I told them we had four kids and were getting a relaxing vacation away since we were in quarantine for our 11 year anniversary. They were so sweet to bring us some truffles.

After dinner we walked around the lobby, enjoyed some cocktails and took in the gorgeous views of the city outside.

The next morning we woke up early to start a fun day of exploring Asheville. We had planned to get up and go on a hike, but it was pretty chilly early in the morning. We decided on a coffee at Double D's and walking around downtown Asheville before our lunch reservations.

Double D's is the cutest little coffee shop.

After our coffee we had about an hour to walk around downtown and look at the shops. We had made lunch reservations at Curate downtown, which is a Spanish tapas restaurant. We had heard amazing reviews about the restaurant so we were really excited. We had the first lunch reservation at 11am. It was the only one available all weekend. Everything we had was so amazing.

After lunch, we made the short drive to Highland Brewing Company. It is the original craft brewery in Asheville and has wonderful outdoor spaces. Michael ordered a flight and I ordered a beer and we enjoyed the gorgeous weather outside.

We headed to the Breweries in the South Slope next. We had never tried sour beers before so we decided to go to the Wicked Weed Funkatorium. We ordered the "Welcome Flight" which had two classic beers and two sour beers and also ordered the "Roulette Mixed Flight" which is the staff picks. They also accidentally sent us a full sour beer flight. Michael and I both decided that some of the sours were way too sour for us. But we definitely enjoyed the experience of trying different types of beer.

We couldn't finish the sour beers. We both felt like we were drinking sour gummy bears!

We walked a couple blocks to Burial Brewery next.

They have a really cool outdoor area with lots of picnic tables and old cars that you can sit in. They weren't serving flights because of COVID, but we grabbed a beer and a picnic table outside. We both enjoyed our beers, but the heavy metal music outside was a little distracting!

We decided to watch the sunset at the Grove Park Inn, so we headed back to the hotel to grab a seat outside. When we got back it was absolutely packed! We finally found a table and ordered a couple of appetizers and a beer.  The only seat we could find was to the far end of the outdoor space.  It was still gorgeous though!

So pretty!

Sunset was really early, so after sunset we headed to a couple more breweries. Our parking pass was still valid in the South Slope area, so it was an easy choice to go back out.

After Catawba, we headed to Green Man Brewery. The staff was really rude and we didn't have the greatest experience. We didn't even finish our beer and left early.

It was only 8pm, but we decided we had enough for the day and headed back to the hotel.  We grabbed a hot chocolate and sat by the fire. Perfect ending to an awesome couple days in Asheville.
