We drove Needles Highway in Custer State Park. It had really gorgeous views of some cool tunnels to drive the car through.
Michael had a work call and we pulled off at this gorgeous overlook of the cathedral spires. The kids roamed around and ate a snack. It was perfect weather and felt really nice.
Next we hiked the Cathedral Spires trail. Its about a 3 mile trail and has gorgeous views. It was also the inspiration for Mount Rushmore!
The kids thought it was fun to climb through one of the spires.
The needles eye
Back on the needles highway through the needles eye tunnel.
We ate lunch at the Sylvan Lake Lodge and then enjoyed the 1 mile hike around Sylvan lake.
The three little ones swam in Sylvan Lake. They said it was really really cold!
That afternoon we went to Rushmore Adventure Park. The boys did the alpine slide and Caitie did the tubing. It was pretty foggy from the Canada wildfires, so we didn't get a really clear look at Mount Rushmore from the top.
The Purple Pie Palace was such a hit that we went back for dinner. Michael's favorite was the cherry pie. Peyton loved huckleberry and I loved the bumbleberry.
