We woke up early and then hung out in our airbnb enjoying some coffee and the views. Our airbnb was the cutest!
Mid-morning we headed to Mount Rushmore. It was so surreal seeing it in real life.
Seeing Mount Rushmore was definitely a bucket list item!
We walked the Presidential Trail around the monument. It's about a mile, but has a good amount of stairs.
It was pretty hot outside and was national ice cream day, so we decided we should try out Thomas Jefferson's original ice cream recipe. It was delicious!
We spotted a pretty lake called Horse Thief Lake on the way back from Mount Rushmore and decided to make a stop. It was a pretty walk around the lake.
We went to a late lunch at Mount Rushmore Brewing and had to try out a couple of their specialty beers.
We had a little bit of time before our Buffalo Safari and napped and relaxed at the airbnb for an hour.
We met up for our sunset buffalo safari at the State Game Lodge Resort. We were all so excited to see more buffalo.
Juan was our guide and he was so wonderful with the kids. We passed some gorgeous views and lots of prairie dog towns. We also went off-road and the kids thought it was so fun.
We ran into a big buffalo herd near the end of our tour and it was so amazing. It was an open air jeep and they were so close to our jeep you could have reached out and touched them (we never would!).
Juan asked all of the kids to name a buffalo. The names were Rainbow, Eddie, Jeff and John. The kids had so much fun seeing the herd that they begged Juan to circle around and try and catch the buffalo again. They were really moving fast, but we caught them again and it was just as fun the second time!
After a couple hours in the jeep we stopped in a pretty field for a chuckwagon dinner. The flies were swarming and Michael was getting bit like crazy! The music and the food was great though!
After a fun filled day we headed back to the airbnb and relaxed in the hot tub.
The weather was perfect and Michael and I hung out by the fire after the kids went to bed. It was a really fun filled day!
