Iceland 15th Anniversary Trip (Part 6)

The next day was really rainy, so Michael and I took our time at breakfast. I loved my morning latte with the most amazing view!

Enjoyed a mimosa with the sound of the rain in the background

Then we headed to the public lagoon to try all the face masks. We had done the 45 minute ritual with all the body masks at the retreat hotel, but this one was a little different.

It was raining so I kept my hat on.

The first mask was the silica mud mask

Next up was the Algae mask

And then the mineral mask. It was a fun experience and my face felt so smooth afterwards.

We headed back over to the retreat to have lunch at the spa and to relax in the waters in the spa.

That night we had dinner reservations at Lava. I got the lamb and it was delicious. Michael got their signature blue drink.

This dessert was amazing! Michael and I both wanted to order a second!

Gorgeous restaurant

The next day we woke up had another delicious breakfast and then headed straight for a soak in the blue lagoon. Neither of us slept very well since the wind was so loud. It also made us a little nervous with the volcano next door and all the bad weather!

We scheduled a massage for me and a facial for Michael on the last day. It was the perfect ending to a dream stay at the blue lagoon.

This used to be a road into the Blue Lagoon, but they built a wall hoping it would deter any lava. A little scary, right?

As you leave the Blue Lagoon you see signs that warn you of hot lava.

Can you see all the new lava? This lava is only about a month old and there is fresh lava still flowing underneath. We saw a few people trying to walk on the volcanic rock, which is a very bad idea. If the top layer was to break you could go right into the hot lava below.

We met the owner of Marberg Gin at the Blue Lagoon and stopped in for a visit on our way to Rekjavik. He was so nice and told us all about his operations and offered us samples. It was a really neat experience.

We checked into the hotel and then walked to the most amazing bakery, Sandholt. I got a delicious latte and the lamb sandwich. It was amazing! I would highly recommend it.

After a late lunch we headed to the lava show. This show was so interesting, but I was so glad that we went to the show after the stay at Blue Lagoon. We learned just how dangerous the Grindavik volcano is and we were really glad to be farther from it! We were up on the balcony and it was so HOT in there. Very cool experience.

After the lava show we headed back to the hotel and soaked in the soaking room. It was a very nice perk of the hotel!

Delicious truffles in the room.

We ate such a late lunch that we weren't hungry and decided to go out and wander around the city for a nightcap.

We also hit an irish bar for Michael.

Then we were off to bed for a very early flight in the morning.

Our breakfast on the plane wasn't too shabby!

It was an amazing vacation, but I was definitely ready to see my sweet little ones!

A week after we left, the volcano erupted and the Blue Lagoon closed. The volcano shot lava 165 feet in the air. We feel so lucky that we were able to experience this beautiful resort and escape unharmed.
