Great Smoky Mountains 2021 (Part 2)

After our afternoon hike we headed to Anakeesta. We rode the sky lift up which always makes me nervous with the little ones!

We explored Anakeesta for a few hours and the kids had a blast running around.

They always love the obstacle courses.

It was a little challenging for Caitie but the boys were great helpers.

Such great views!

The hanging bridges are always so fun

We saw a great sunset while waiting to eat dinner.

Shortly after sunset there was a huge dark cloud overhead. We both checked the weather, not wanting to get stuck on the mountain. We didn't see anything in the forecast and carried on waiting for our turn to be seated for dinner. As soon as we were seated for dinner we heard a huge boom and saw lightning right next to the window. It was a huge storm that was right on top of us! We sat at the dinner table for two hours trying to wait out the storm. The restaurant closed and we were forced out to wait with the masses. We ended up taking the shuttle down around midnight. We were in the very last bus! The kids were exhausted but all acted wonderfully, which I was very thankful for! Nothing like being stuck on a mountain with 4 kids for hours on end!

The next morning we slept in after the very late night at Anakeesta. We grabbed some lunch and then went on a short little hike at our usual spot.

We arrived home on Thursday afternoon just in time for football practice and saw a fun surprise from Big for Caitie. She loved it!

Although we had a great time on the trip it wasn't our most successful trip to the Smoky Mountains. Pretty much everything that could go wrong went wrong. We were locked out of our room for the first hour of the trip because the lock malfunctioned. Peyton got a poisonous spider bite that caused his leg to swell out  (we spent the day home at the pediatrician getting it looked at). We got stuck at Anakeesta for hours. And then to top it off we had about 1 million ants inhabit our car from a lovely person dumping margaritas right next to our tire. We spent a couple hours cleaning it out before packing up and heading back to Nashville. Even though pretty much everything went wrong, I am glad we went. The kids will definitely remember this trip!
