Patrick's First Thanksgiving

Happy Thanksgiving!

This year has brought us so many blessings and I am just so thankful for them all. I really have everything I have ever hoped for and more. I am so thankful for a wonderful husband who is a great dad to our little boy! I am also so thankful for my healthy, beautiful little boy! I am thankful for my two pups who took a little while to get adjusted to Patrick, but are now so sweet with him! I am also thankful for a good diagnosis for Turk! Turk is going to be ok! Yay Turk!!

We are also thankful for our families! We are so thankful to have both sets of grandparents live in town and siblings that only live a couple hours away! I think we take for granted all of the free babysitting! Even all of our extended family lives within a couple hours. How lucky is that!?

Our weekend started out on Wednesday night with a game night at the Mulloy's.

There were lots of laughs

Patrick had fun too (notice all those teeth!)

Patrick is a little shy and has started hiding on mom and dad

On Thanksgiving morning we went to watch Michael, Matthew, Mark and Ryan play in the "Turkey Bowl." A bunch of Michael's friends from high school play at Father Ryan every Thanksgiving morning.

Michael, Matthew, Mark and Ryan were all on one team, and they won!

After the Turkey Bowl, we went to eat Brunch at the Mulloy's

Then we headed to Center Hill Lake to my Aunt's house to eat more yummy food!

Riley (the dog) really liked Patrick, so this was the best picture we could get of Mimi and Aunt Mary with Patrick

It was a wonderful Thanksgiving with lots of great food and family! Hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving too!

No Good, Terrible, Very Bad Week

I can't really think of many positive moments from this past week. It has been a stressful, hard week and I am so glad it's over because next week has to be better than this week!

The rough patch started out on Saturday at Michael's family reunion which was at Center Hill Lake last weekend.   We had a blast until the last night.  Here are a couple pictures from the reunion before the madness started :)

Nana and Patrick

Spencer and I won the cornhole tournament

Patrick was so good the entire weekend, except for Saturday night. Patrick is not a good sleeper in general, but take him out of his crib and we don't have a chance of him sleeping. He was awake from 1am - 5am. Which means no sleep for Michael or I! Patrick doesn't require a lot of sleep, so even if he doesn't sleep he is still an extremely happy baby. So on Sunday, he was in a surprisingly good mood. A much better mood than Michael and I were in.

My parents took care of Turk and Bailey while we were gone, which means that Turk and Bailey had the time of their lives! They have so much fun when my dad keeps them, because they go on long hikes through the woods and get to play with their favorite person all weekend! My dad let us know that something seemed off with Turk and we should consider taking him to the vet on Monday. We noticed on Sunday night that he was extremely lethargic and not himself at all. Sunday night, Michael and I barely slept because we were both worried about Turk, but also because Patrick, being thrown off his schedule, woke up 3 times that night.

Then at 6am Monday morning, I get a call from Margaret saying she has the stomach bug and can't keep Patrick. I'm exhausted, have a full day of meetings at work, have a sick dog and find out I don't have childcare. Could it get worse? Yes, it can! I immediately text my mom to see if she can watch Patrick for the day. She responds that she can watch Patrick for the half the day. Since Michael's mom was out of town, I have no other option but to call a nanny service. I had meetings all day and it's Michael's first full week of work at PWC, so he can't help either. Since I know I am already going to be late to work because of child care, I decide to take Turk to the vet. I go to work extremely exhausted and stressed out. I have big deadlines, but all I can think about is that I have someone from a nanny service, who I have never met, watching my child in the afternoon and a sick dog at the vet (and a lonely dog at home).

After talking to my mom and being reassured that the nanny does seem nice and perfectly capable of taking care of Patrick, I call the vet to find out about Turk. Since I couldn't be there to answer all of the questions, the vet asked me questions over the phone and inspected Turk at the same time. I kept hearing phrases like "oh goodness," "oh no", "oh my," which did not sound good. If you remember from a previous post, we had taken Turk to the vet a couple of weeks ago because he had gotten in a fight with an animal. He was on medication and seemed to be feeling better, but seemed to have relapsed this past weekend. We assumed it was something to do with that. However, the vet told us that Turk had tons of lesions in his mouth and it had spread to his nose and through his throat (we thought the scrapes on his nose were from the animal). She warned us that the diagnosis was not good and that it is either throat cancer or an extremely rare form of a skin infection. She asked if she could put him under and do a biopsy to get samples to send to a specialist in Florida. We should know the results on Monday. We are praying that it is not cancer!!!!! Our dogs are like our children and it is so sad to see him in pain! Prayers for Turk would be much appreciated!

In addition to all of that, Margaret was sick on Tuesday and Wednesday so I was scrambling for child care half the week. On Thursday, Patrick went to day care. I knew he was teething, because I could see one of his top teeth coming through and he was a little fussier than normal. I sent him with tylenol hoping it would help him with the teething pain. I was told he was happy all day at day care, but when I went to pick him up at Michael's parents house after a meeting, he was not happy! I gave him tylenol and we played for a little while, then he went to bed. At midnight he woke up screaming. I went in there and picked him up and his whole body was so hot. I took his temperature and it was 103.4. Way too high for teething. I try and nurse him before going to the hospital since he is most comforted by nursing and because he won't take a bottle when he feels bad. He refused to eat, which is extremely rare for Patrick, so i'm even more nervous. We get to the Vanderbilt ER around 12:30am and it is packed!!! Once the tylenol works, Patrick starts feeling much better and starts entertaining us and the nurses.

Look how happy and awake this child is at 3am in a hospital!

The doctor diagnosed Patrick with an ear infection and gave him some antibiodics at 4:30am and we went home. The next morning I called Margaret to tell her about Patrick and she said the same thing happened to another one of the kids at daycare but that she had a bad virus. After hearing that, I was so glad we took him and started him on medicine because i'm assuming Patrick had a virus as well as the ear infection!

I especially want to thank the grandmothers for their help this week and Kara, who went above and beyond a friend's call of duty and watched my child while I went to an extremely important meeting.

Here's to a better week next week and lots of yummy Thanksgiving food!

Lately

I can't get over how much Patrick changes and learns in a week! Patrick is so active now! He loves pulling up and wants to practice all day. He has 5 teeth, 2 on the bottom and 3 on the top. There is a gap on the top right now, which makes it pretty funny to look at :) He has really been struggling with the top teeth. He had to stay home from school 2 days this week because of a high fever in addition to a pretty nasty cough and a runny nose at the same time.

I was taking some pictures of Patrick and Bailey decided she wanted to be the center of attention. So I captured a few of Patrick's faces while he was looking at her. His little expressions are just priceless! I can't wait to see more of his personality shine through as he gets a little older!

Laughing at Bailey

So that's why her nickname is "Crazy Bailey"

Seriously, what is that crazy dog doing!?

While Bailey is entertaining us, this is what Turk is doing

Headed to his first Titan's tailgate

Hanging out at his first Titans tailgate. The wind was a little chilly!

Patrick had his first friend over to play last Saturday night. Grace and Curt brought Hannah over to play and watch the Alabama/LSU game. They had such a good time playing!

My sister came too and she captured this adorable video of Patrick and Hannah. As I have mentioned, Patrick LOVES to bounce so I was holding him while he bounced up and down. Hannah crawled over to me and decided it looked like fun, so Grace held Hannah while she bounced too. You can't really hear it in the video but they are squealing back and forth at one another. I wish you could see their faces in the video. It was hysterical!

Patrick can sit up now, so he can ride in the shopping cart at the grocery store. He loves it! Its so much easier than pushing the cart and holding him!

Playing with Big and climbing over the obstacle course Big made for him out of pillows

Singing with Big

I can't believe how big he is!

Pulling Up

Patrick has been pulling up for the past couple of weeks! Below is a video of one of his first times pulling up. Right before this video he pulled up on his jumparoo all by himself and got so excited that he let go and hit his head on the hardwood floors! He hadn't tried to pull up on anything without me watching before, so I was picking up his toys on the floor and didn't get there fast enough! So in the video he looks at me to make sure I am watching so he doesn't fall!

I love his happy little squeal in the end. Once again ignore my voice :)

I asked Margaret if he has been pulling up at school and she said that he hasn't tried it at school yet, so he must just do it at home for us! He is going to be walking before I know it! I can't believe how fast the time is flying by!

Patrick- 7 Months

My sweet Patrick is 7 months old!

There have been so many changes since the 6 month post! For one thing, Patrick is really mobile. He can crawl and can go really fast! He is also pulling up! Hasn't mastered it yet, but gets so excited when he does it! I always cheer for him when he pulls up by saying "Yay Patrick" and he just gets this huge grin on his face and loves being praised! If he wants to be picked up, he crawls to your feet and looks up at you. It's pretty funny! He is sitting up now, but still topples over from time to time.

He can also say "dada" and pretty much just repeats that all day long. He eats 2 meals a day. I have tried to feed him breakfast, but he is not interested in the morning and only wants to play. So I guess we will stick with 2 meals! He loves fruits, sweet potatoes, squash and oatmeal yogurt. He doesn't like peas, carrots or rice cereal very much. He also LOVES dogs. He is constantly giggling at Turk, Bailey, Neyland and Rocky.

The only way I can get him to smile while I have a camera is to convince Bailey to come near him. So in most my pictures he is looking at Bailey with his hands out.

He is a sporadic sleeper. He is on a pretty good nap schedule but we can't get his bedtime routine down. He takes two naps a day and one power nap. His morning nap is normally 1 hour and his afternoon nap is normally 2 hours. He takes a 20 minutes power nap at night, which is normally during dinner time and allows Michael and I to eat. But his bedtime is normally around 10. Wish we could push it up, but he won't go to bed earlier! He lets you know when he is tired by rubbing his eyes. He still prefers to nurse to sleep. He wakes up at least once during the night to eat (for the last month its been twice), but normally goes right back to sleep afterwards. He drinks well over the average amount they recommend for a child his age to drink, so I guess he is just extra hungry!!

He is still a little bitty baby. He can still wear most of his 3 month pants, but we have to go up to a 9 month if its a longall for length.

He has 3 teeth. Two on the bottom and one on the upper right side. Hopefully his others will come in soon so his top isn't so lopsided!

Showing off his teeth

I had to travel and be away from Patrick for the night for the first time this week. I think he gave Michael a run for his money and barely slept! I sure did miss the little guy!! It broke my heart when we used facetime on the iphone and he reached out for me and smiled then started crying!

Here he is in his UT outfit with his matching shoes. The shoes were a gift from Michael's cousin, Erin. They are pretty funny on him! They also squeak which Patrick thought was really cool.

He loves bouncing and could probably do it all night long! Below he is bouncing with Grumps

Playing patty cakes with Nana

Last weekend Michael was playing "hanging with friends", which is an iphone app. Patrick loves phones so Michael let him guess a few words. For some reason Patrick thought it was hysterical because he was giggling like crazy every time he pressed a letter.

We love you Patrick! You are such a joy to us every day!

Turk and Bailey Update

I haven't posted about Turk and Bailey lately, because they really haven't been up to much. They have been going on walks with "Whose That" and searching for chipmunks in the back yard.

However, last Friday they had a big event. It was dark outside and I heard them barking at something. Michael was at a happy hour and I was feeding Patrick so I just figured they were barking at a chipmunk and were fine. Then I heard a really loud fight outside. I knew it wasn't Turk and Bailey messing with each other because it sounded loud and vicious. I ran downstairs with Patrick to see Turk and Bailey both covered in blood standing at the back door. I called Michael because I had no idea what to do. Since Patrick was with me, I didn't want to let them in the house and touch them, but I didn't want to leave them outside with whatever dangerous animal was out there either. Michael got home shortly after and cleaned them off. He couldn't find an animal in the back yard, so the animal must have gotten away. We assumed it was either a raccoon or a possum since we have a 7 foot fence and it would have had to climb the fence to get in the back yard.

Turk seemed to be the more injured one from the fight. He had bite marks all around his throat and deep scratch marks on his nose and inside is mouth. I was really nervous about it and wanted to take them to the vet the next morning. However, the next day they both acted fine so we didn't take them. A week later, Turk was obviously not feeling well. He didn't move all day and didn't eat, which is rare for Turk. Bailey will go a couple days without eating sometimes, but not Turk. He also seemed sluggish when "Whose That" came over, so we knew something was wrong with him! Michael took him to the emergency vet at midnight on Saturday night. The vet seemed to think it was just an infection but told us to look for signs of rabies. Apparently, they can't test for rabies. They have both had their rabies shots, but you never know. Turk also had a big hot spot all around his mouth and neck from drooling from getting the scratches in his mouth. The day after we gave Turk his medicine he acted like his old self again! So happy he is feeling better and doesn't have rabies!

My sweet little buddies

Below is a picture of Turk a couple weeks after the incident. You can still see a little trace of the hotspot on Turk although its much better than it was!

Turk and Bailey have been really good lately. No more accidents in Patrick's room. Bailey will sniff and lick Patrick a lot, but run away if he tries to reach out. Turk runs away if you are holding Patrick and get close to him. Overall they have been really good with him and are getting used to sharing Michael and I.

Halloween

Patrick's first Halloween was adorable! It was so fun to have a little one to dress up!

The Sunday before Halloween we carved our pumpkin.

Then we had a little photoshoot with the pumpkin :)

Patrick is really into standing up while holding onto something right now

Another dog was walking down the street so Turk and Bailey decided to jump in the picture

Patrick's holding the pumpkin he picked out at the pumpkin patch

Sharon picked up Patrick from school on Halloween and when I went to get him they were having fun outside. Below are a few pictures of my happy little boy!

For Halloween, Patrick dressed up as a Kangaroo. He LOVES to bounce up and down and can bounce all day long, so it was the perfect outfit for him.

Isn't he just the cutest Kangaroo?!?

Family Picture

Me and my little buddy

He hated the costume because he is really hot natured, so even though it was cold outside he was still pretty hot in it. As soon as we took him out of the costume he was as happy as can be!

It was a fun first Halloween, but I can't wait until next year when he can participate a little more!
