Fall Break 2022- Oktoberfest, Helen Georgia (Part 3)

On the third day in Blue Ridge we relaxed at the cabin in the morning and then headed to Helen, Georgia late afternoon. It was a treacherous drive. It was 15 miles up and down a mountain with the speed limit being 15 miles per hour. We finally made it to the cutest little town. All of the buildings are German buildings and it is precious. We walked around town for a little bit. It was another gorgeous day.

We took a ride on the Georgia Mountain coaster. It was really fun!

Then we ate a German dinner at the Troll Tavern. The food was great, but the service was absolutely horrible. We had to wait about 45 minutes for a drink!

After dinner we headed to the Festhalle for the Oktoberfest celebration. I have to admit that it is not what I thought it was going to be at all. It was in what looked to be a large cafeteria, with decorations and people everywhere. Mostly older people that were very skilled in their German dancing. It was so funny and also such a blast!

The band was great!

The kids all purchased hats and had a blast dancing and singing along to all the music.

The whole group!

This little one was having the most fun!

We left a little before the celebration was over so that we could make the treacherous drive back to Blue Ridge, Georgia. I didn't drink so that I could drive us back. I have to say it is the most nervous I have been driving a car. It was so steep our breaks were smelling and it felt like our brakes were going to go out! There were multiple animals that also crossed our path, so it took us about an hour and a half to go the 35 miles. We saw multiple deer, black bears, possums and all sorts of other animals!

The Oktoberfest party was a great ending to our few days in Georgia. We left early the next morning to head back to Nashville and pack for New Orleans and Baton Rouge!
