Patrick's First Week of Pre-school

Patrick had his first week at Belle Meade United Methodist last week. This was the best picture we were able to get of him on his first day of school. Can't believe how fast he is growing!

Patrick was really nervous about the first day of school. He clung to me really tightly when Michael and I dropped him off. But once he saw the train table he ran off to play with it. I was so nervous about how he would do his first day but was excited that drop off went as well as it did. The teachers said he cried when he realized that Michael and I were gone, but did really well the rest of the time. I only took him for a short amount of time so he could get used to it and not be overwhelmed.

The second day didn't go as well as the first and he was so nervous to go back. He cried and cried when I dropped him off and kept asking to "go back to Pat Pat's house please." It was so hard to drop him off and I was really tempted to take him back home with me. But, I didn't want him to miss out on his first week so I resisted and planned to pick him up after only a few hours. While I was on my way to pick him up, the teacher called and said he woke up from his nap and had an anxiety attack and cried so hard he threw up. Luckily, I was already on my way to get him. When I got there he was sitting on the teachers lap and was pretty upset. I felt so bad for him.

He did a little better on Wednesday, but there were still a lot of tears involved at drop off time. He still refused to eat at school and hadn't eaten anything at school in three days. He was starving every day I picked him up. Luckily, I took an extra week and a half of maternity leave to get him oriented so I have been able to pick him up early.

Thursday went so much better and there were no tears at drop off! He was still a little sad, but I felt much better about leaving him at school for a few hours. He also took one bite of corn at lunch! Progress for sure!

Friday went wonderful! Michael dropped him off and he didn't cry and ran off to play! He also ate two bowls of cereal at morning snack! Yay!! Still didn't eat any lunch, but maybe he will get used to it soon.

I start back at work on Thursday, so I am a little worried about Patrick having to go a full day. I don't think he has been to a full day of school since April! I'm really hoping he will start to try his lunch so he won't be so hungry!

Love this sweet little boy! I know he will love school once he gets the hang of it! And luckily he will still get to see Margaret and all of his other friends when we drop off Peyton every morning!
