Spring Break 2016- Great Smoky Mountains

For Patrick's first Spring Break at St. Henry's we headed to Pigeon Forge. Spring break also coincided with both of the boys birthdays so it was the perfect excuse for a trip! We decided to head to Pigeon Forge to a new place called "The Island" and stay at the Margaritaville Hotel. We had originally decided to stay at a water park hotel, but it turned out it had bed bugs (yuck!!!). I had never been to Gatlinburg or Pigeon Forge and wasn't expecting that much, but the hotel was really nice.

We were traveling to Pigeon Forge on Peyton's birthday, so we let him pick a fun little thing to do that day. He picked to go to a bouncy house, so we headed to a bouncy house on our way out of town. We traveled to Knoxville the first night and stayed at Michael's grandparents house. We celebrated our sweet little Peyton's 3rd birthday with a pizza dinner and cake at his great grandparents house. Very special for sure!

Around noon on Tuesday we headed tp Margaritaville, which was about 45 minutes from Michael's grandparents house. Our room wasn't ready, so we headed out to the fun rides.

Our kids go a mile a minute, hate to sleep, and have no idea how to sit still so when we look for a vacation spot we try and find something that will keep them busy but will also be fun for Michael and I. This was definitely the perfect place! There were all kinds of rides on The Island and the boys never wanted to leave! It was also great for Michael and I, since it had pretty good restaurants and also had plentiful drinks. The hotel also had margarita machines in each room with a cute little balcony where you could look out over the Island and enjoy a drink. Perfect!

Here is a picture of our room (with Conor looking out onto the balcony)

The Island

The pool and outside bar that look out over the ferris wheel

They have a 24 hour pass that you can purchase, so they boys could ride any ride they wanted! It was perfect and we definitely got our money's worth! We headed towards the ferris wheel first. The boys were a little scared the first few minutes, but then had fun looking over pigeon forge and gatlinburg.

We were all a little hungry, so after a ride on the ferris wheel we headed to lunch at Margaritaville

Peyton loved the specialty juices in the light up cups

Michael and I tried the margarita sampler, which was delish!

After a late lunch, we checked into the room, swam for a little bit and then went out for some more fun rides!

We all rode the Carousel

Patrick and Michael rode the Happy Swing

Lil' Ribbits (aka Jumping frogs as the boys called it). Peyton probably rode this ride over 30 times. He is not a thrill seeker like Patrick, so while Patrick rode everything else, he mostly just rode this ride over and over and over again :)

Twist and Shout (aka Twisty twirly ride as Patrick called it). This was Patrick's favorite ride and he rode it multiple times.

This makes my stomach hurt watching this!

We rode the ferris wheel at night and it was gorgeous!

Since we had such a late lunch, we all opted for ice cream cones while watching the fountains. Perfect end to our first day on the island!

We woke up the next morning and lounged around the room for a little while. Then we headed to a new little place called Courthouse donuts. My boys love donuts and you get to make your own donuts at this place, so we thought it would be fun!

Patrick picked out vanilla icing with oreo's and sprinkles, Peyton picked chocolate with sprinkles, and Michael and I split some of their specialties, the orange creamsicle, and banana pudding. We also got a few to go for the next morning including the bumble bee (which is vanilla icing, caramel drizzle, hershey chocolate, and honey). So yummy!

We still had time left on our 24 hour passes, so the boys rode some more rides. Conor rode the train and loved it!

We headed back to the hotel for a quick 30 minute rest

Rest time also included some margarita's for Michael and I :)

Then we headed to the aquarium. The boys had such a blast!

The shark walk through was a hit! The boys were in awe of the sharks!

Penguins

Family picture outside the aquarium. Patrick was not thrilled that it was so bright outside

After the aquarium we walked to the Ole Smoky Candy Kitchen. Patrick picked out white chocolate pretzels and Peyton picked out rock candy.

Conor clearly had fun with the white chocolate pretzel

We headed for a late lunch at Johnny Rockets in Gatlinburg. Would definitely not recommend it, although the kids did have fun

Then we headed for a swim in the pool. The kids swam for a long time and had a lot of fun. It was neat swimming late, since the ferris wheel lit up the pool.

After our swim we headed back to the island to walk around and do a little shopping

The boys and I watched the fountains while Michael tried out the moonshine tasting. I didn't think I could handle trying 10 different moonshines :)

Here's a little clip of the fountain show

We headed back late and the boys didn't get in bed until 10pm, yikes! Michael and I hung out on the balcony and relaxed a little for our last night.

The next morning we woke up and packed our bags to check out. The boys begged to stay longer, but when we asked about extending our stay they were booked!

We headed to lunch at Mellow Mushroom then rode the rides one last time before heading back to Knoxville. They had fun jumping in the Thunderdome one last time.

We were then off to Knoxville for a quick stop at Clancy's tavern and Aunt Denton's new house. We got home pretty late that night and we were all exhausted! It was a fun first Spring Break. The boys are already asking when we can go back!
