Northeast Summer Vacation - Acadia/Portland (Part 7)

We checked out of our hotel and took off for our last few hours in Acadia. We loved this cute little town of Bar Harbor.

We always make sure to take a picture with the national park sign.

Then we headed towards Sand Beach. It was really really overcast and cloudy when we first got there.

I didn't think the kids would get in the water since it was 55 degrees. Caitie and Conor were completely soaked by the end of our visit. I thought it was too cold to even dip my feet in!

The clouds started to clear up and it was sunny, which made the water much more bearable.

Unfortunately, we found out right after snapping these pictures that Michael's grandfather had passed away at the age of 92. He had been sick for a very long time. We were really really sad, but also happy for him that he was out of pain.

Michael's grandfather's obituary spoke about his love of traveling and that he visited all 50 states. We are attempting to do the same with our children. So we decided to spend a few minutes and think about memories of Michael's grandfather while soaking in the beauty of the Maine coast. I know he was there with us smiling down.

Our next stop was Little Hunters Beach. We had some sandwiches and blueberries to eat. When we heard this was one of the most popular spots for a wedding, we did not expect it to be a beach of rocks. But after sitting down and listening, it made gorgeous sounds with the waves hitting the rocks and pulling them back and forth. The kids also had a blast climbing on all of the rocks.

We decided to head back to Bar Harbor to Paddy's Irish Pub and toast Papaw Clancy.

After Paddy's we drove the few hours to Portland. We arrived just in time for a gorgeous sunset. We ate at DiMillo's on the Water and it was delicious. We were all exhausted and headed back to the hotel for bed.

Excited to explore Portland tomorrow!
